Hello - I'm Natalie Ryan
Textile Designer / Illustrator / Sunday gardener
Growing up on a farm in country Victoria, my love of drawing and painting plants and nature began at an early age. Winter Sunday afternoon drives with my grandparents introduced me to local wildflowers such as Billy Buttons, Wax-lip orchids , Golden Guineas and Pink Heath.
Following a BA in Textile Design at RMIT, Melbourne, I have worked in textile design studios in Sydney (Sheridan), London (Colwill and Waud) and Melbourne (Linen House), designing printed and woven fabrics for bed linen and soft furnishings for both children and adults.
A few years ago I studied botanical painting at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Melbourne, and it was there that the seed to create my own range of textile designs and homewares featuring watercolour depictions of Australia's unique flora and fauna was sown. You can view the Meander Collection at www.meanderdesigns.com.au
My design studio is located in an old farmhouse with a traditional iron lace clad veranda, surrounded by a rambling country garden first planted by my great grandparents in the early 1900's. I create all of my freelance designs and illustrations by hand using a variety of mediums including watercolour, gouache and printmaking.
